Stewardship of St. James PDF Print E-mail

“The promotion of the practice of stewardship is important for the mission of the Church and for the spiritual well-being of each individual Christian. Everyone benefits from the sacrificial gift one makes of his time, talent and treasure.” His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI

For all things come from You, and from Your hand we have give You. 1 Chronicles 29: 14-16

Tithe Time, Talent and Treasure

In the Old Testament, God asked the Israelites to tithe–giving the first of everything back to Him. In the New Testament, Jesus taught us to serve and to give what is God’s. God expects us to use our gifts of time, talent and treasure wisely to build up the Kingdom of God.

What is God asking of you?

Throughout scared scripture and every day in our own lives, God calls us. He calls us to build His kingdom here on earth, work for Him and give as He gives. God has given each of us a unique blend of time, talent and treasure so that we can carry out His mission. Yet, answering the call of the Lord can still be a challenge.

We are asked to give to God first.

Stewardship asks us to give in a way that many of us have never been asked to give before. We are asked to give to God first, making Him the top priority in our lives. We are asked to actively participate in building God’s kingdom.

Love God more than material possessions.

It’s not so easy when we live in a society that encourages us to constantly buy and think of ourselves. God is asking us to give and think of others. Therefore, to succeed as stewards, we need faith and commitment. Pray and reflect of what God is asking of you.

Time: Stewardship begins with making time for prayer.

This special time with God spiritually prepares us to use our gifts in service to God and others. Check the ways you will commit to enhancing your time.

Reflect on your blessings.

  • Participate in Mass every Sunday and Holy Day.
  • Participate in weekday Mass at least once a month.
  • Pray with family.
  • Read the scriptures each week.
  • Pray the Rosary.
