Fr. John McCormick was born in Dublin in the Republic of Ireland in June of 1945, he is the middle of five children born to Thomas and Nora.  Upon completing his high school studies with the Christian Brothers, he entered the Novitiate of the Legion of Christ in Malahide, County  Dublin.  After a year in Salamanca, Spain, Fr. John obtained Licenciate in Philosophy from the Gregorian University in Rome in 1968.  Father taught English and Religion at a high school in Mexico City and later returned to Rome and obtained a Licenciate in Theology from the Angelicum University and was ordained December 24, 1975.

In 1976, Fr. McCormick transferred to Bethesda and Rockville Maryland, just outside of DC.  In 1983, he was incardinated into the Diocese of Orlando and his fist assignment was parochial vicar at St. James Cathedral.  In October of 1992, he was assigned to pastor at Holy Redeemer Parish in Kissimmee.  On September 11, 2001, Fr. John moved back downtown and began his present assignment as Rector of the Cathedral at St. James.

Bishop Dorsey asked Father to serve as the Diocesan Director of the Propagation of the Faith, which presents him with opportunities to travel and visit many countries where the poor and suffering are living the Gospel.  Father has met many who spend their lives as missionaries and is responsible for inviting missionaries from all over the world to come to our Diocese so that we can all remember that we in fact are all missionaries.

Father John is known to his parish family as a hard-working priest who loves his job and those he is called to shepherd.  He is also known for his inexplicable love of sports, namely the Dallas Cowboys….
